It was a great pleasure to be visited by former Irish presidential candidate and Dragon’s Den panelist turned newspaper columnist, Seán Gallagher. Seán writes a weekly business column for the Sunday Independent, so naturally we were delighted when he chose to select us as a focus for an article and call out for a look around GARDENROOMS. Seán charted the highs and lows of John’s career, his established reputation in the area of dedicated workspaces and lifestyle enhancing products available from both GARDENROOMS and Garden Play. It was clear from the outset with GARDENROOMS that he could identify the value of a dedicated workspace.

As we prepare to launch our brand new sister company, Simply Extend, it was very motivating to have Sean visit and feature the company. As Seán mentioned in his article, although business fell by 80% during the downturn, we are now beginning to see things picking up, with families incentivised to renovate under the government’s Home Improvement Scheme. Since all of our GARDENROOMS are planning exempt, and offer a tailored turn-key solution with a 2 week build, the package that we offer is a very attractive option for those who need to make use of the little bit of extra space. Simply Extend aims to take the essence of a GARDENROOMS package, allowing customers some element of customisation, retaining the benefits of zero planning required, while at the same time resulting in a permanent structure attached to your home.

Seán also touched on our continuing success as the number one retailer of outdoor play equipment in Ireland with Garden Play. Renovating one’s home often goes hand in hand with doing up the garden so it was a natural market for us to latch on to during the recession. We found that while people were hesitant to spend large amounts of money on their homes, they were confident enough to spend around €1,000 on play equipment to keep the children entertained.

Today, GARDENROOMS and Garden Play continue to thrive and we look forward to a bright future for our little family of businesses!
